Guernsey Employment Trust (GET) have been commissioned by the Disability and Inclusion Strategy (within the Committee for Employment and Social Security) to raise awareness with Employers on Employment and Disability, providing guidance on good practice for the recruitment and retention of disabled people. GET have produced a practical and helpful Good Practice Guide as a reference tool for employers to maximise the potential of disabled people. The aim of the guide is to assist employers to implement good practice in the absence and in advance of local disability discrimination legislation. An electronic version of The Good Practice Guide can be accessed here: http://www.get.org.gg/employers/employment-guide
To complement the Guide, GET has produced an Employers’ Disability Charter to enable employers to provide tangible evidence that they are working towards taking positive action and developing initiatives that will enable more disabled people to access employment opportunities in Guernsey. Signing up to the Charter is about working towards the nine commitments and not the immediate fulfilment of them – signing up is a step along a journey not the end of it. GET is hoping that employerswill sign up during 2017/2018 and as the Charter logo becomes more used by employers and recognised by the public, it will become more evident to disabled people which employers are welcoming applications from disabled people. An electronic version of the Charter can be found here:http://www.get.org.gg/employers/charter
