Carers Guernsey is a new charity dedicated to supporting islanders of all ages who provide informal care for family members and friends with life-limiting health conditions.
Carers Guernsey is recruiting its first two members of staff – a Manager and an Outreach Worker – who together will be responsible for setting up and developing services to support carers across the Bailiwick.
Manager (Part time)
The Manager will be responsible for establishing and managing Carers Guernsey, using a phased approach to the development of services. This will involve managing staff, volunteers and resources, and ensuring that services are delivered effectively. The Manager will represent the best interests of carers when attending working groups and will undertake research on the current services available to carers.
The successful applicant will have: significant management and leadership experience in a comparable organisation, ideally in the field of health or social care; a genuine passion and empathy for carers; demonstrable finance and business management skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills and be capable of working on their own initiative.
The position is 24 hours per week and flexible hours are negotiable.
Outreach Worker (Full time)
The Outreach Worker will provide direct services to carers and act as the representative of Carers Guernsey within the carer community. The Outreach Worker will mange an on-going case workload of carers; signpost users to existing services, while at the same time coordinating the use of services provided by the third sector and the States. Initial services of Carers Guernsey itself will include emotional support sessions, carer peer support, advocacy work and training.
The successful applicant will have experience of supporting carers or individuals with medical or age-related conditions or disabilities; knowledge and understanding of issues and challenges facing carers; experience in developing policies, procedures and safeguarding; excellent communication and listening skills; the ability to build rapport with service users; the ability to work with a large range of stakeholders and the ability to write reports and maintain case workload data.
