Castel HospitalGuernsey is one step closer to having a brand new mental health facility.  The existing Castel Hospital was deemed inadequate more than twenty five years ago.
In July, HSSD unveiled the plans for a new acute ward which will be built on the Pricess Elizabeth Hospital site.  The £25m build will start in 2013 and will be ready for use two years later.
Guernsey Mind and the GSF Mental Health Fellowship welcomed the plans but raised concerns about whether support in the community would be in place in time to compensate for the reduced number of beds in the new acute ward.
HSSD were quick to reassure the charities that community mental health care was a top priority.
