Great news for young carers on the island. The HUB launched a Young Carers after school club to mark Young Carers week in June. As we all know, young carers are often hidden on the island and there are very few opportunities for them to have time to themselves. So the idea is to run a club where young carers can come together in a safe environment where they can relax and have a fun time.
This offer is aimed at young carers aged between 11 – 16 years. The first session started on the 11th of June and the club will run every week on a Tuesday after school – 3:30pm till 5:30pm at The HUB. Young people are provided with a healthy snack and engaging activities, with the opportunity to talk to other young carers and trained Barnardo workers about any worries or concerns they have as well as getting the chance to ‘just be young people’. There are also future plans to give young people the chance to take part in activities at Rue Maingy Activity Centre, organise training courses with the St John’s Ambulance and organise events for themselves.
Please spread the word if you know any young carers that would benefit. For any more information or for any help with transport please contact Charlie Cox from THE HUB.
