Seasonal dispensations are in place again this year to allow driving through some of the prohibited streets in the Town area to view the Christmas lights during the festive period. These dispensations are intended for the benefit of older people and people with disabilities. There is no need to call our Bulwer Avenue offices for a permit, permission is only open for vehicles carrying persons of pensionable age or disabled passengers.
Eligible persons wishing to view the Christmas lights can either travel down Smith Street or along the Le Pollet and then through to Town Church Square. In the case of Mansell Street and Mill Street drivers must travel downhill towards the Market. Drivers are reminded that all of the roads mentioned above are subject to a 12mph speed limit.
This concession applies from Sunday through to Wednesday evenings between the hours of 6.00pm and 10.00pm and only on the appropriate days between Sunday 4th December 2016 and Sunday 1st January 2017. Permission is not granted on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evenings during this period due to the increased social activity and high footfall on during these evenings.
We hope you enjoy seeing the Christmas lights.
