September 20, 2022
When: 28th September from 8:30 to 9:30
Where: States of Guernsey, St James Street (see Courts access guide)
What: Celebration of the Deputies going in to vote
The anti-discrimination ordinance is due to come back to the States on 28th September 2022.
We need as many people as possible to help cheer the States Deputies into the meeting that morning to celebrate that they are considering this important piece of legislation. The new legislation will provide protection from discrimination on the grounds of disability and carer status and enable recourse to mediation and tribunal where discrimination occurs.
It is a huge step and will enable protection against discrimination to be provided across employment, accommodation, goods and services and education.
We need you to applaud our deputies; provide them with cakes and drinks and celebrate by cheering them into the meeting!
Other grounds should also be protected from discrimination in this ordinance so we hope to be joined by representatives of the grounds of race, religion and sexual orientation as well as disability and carers. In a later phase further protection will be provided for grounds already covered in employment and a new ground of age will be added.
This will be a fun, friendly, celebratory atmosphere as our deputies come to the States chamber to vote on the legislation.
Save the date in your calendar and let Carol know by emailing carol@disabilityalliance.org.gg if you can help out with anything.
