Danielle Brown MBE was in Guernsey this week and the GDA was invited to meet her thanks to Peregrine Wealth Ltd.
Danielle had a compelling story of how she achieved 2 Paralympic gold medals in Beijing (2008) and London (2012) for Great Britain. Her individual Paralympic gold medals were for archery using the compound bow. She was, at the time of the 2008 Paralympics, a law student at Leicester University, and subsequently achieved first-class honours
She was also part of the Women’s Compound Team in Delhi winning Gold at the Commonwealth Games for England. She was the first Paralympian to represent England in an event at the Games.
In November 2013, World Archery announced that Danielle would not be able to compete in Para-Archery contests as her impairment, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) in her feet, was no longer classified for the Paralympics. Although she appealed the decision it was a turning point with her Paralympic career coming to an abrupt halt.
A meeting with a young audience member at a motivational talk led to a career change and Danielle became a children’s author. In 2022 Danielle won the Sunday Times Children’s Sports Book of the Year award for her book Run Like a Girl.
