Pelotour arrives in Guernsey on the afternoon of 26thApril – fundraising for the Guernsey Disability Alliance (GDA) and UK Prostate Cancer
We are looking for local cyclists to join the team of 5 doctor as they ride around the island on Friday 26th April afternoon. Meet them off the boat and support and guide them as they circumnavigate Guernsey before they head off back to the UK and Buckingham Palace.
“All the gear, no idea – 800 KM, five men, two countries, one island, two excellent causes”, sums up the aspirations of five cyclists (one with links to Guernsey) hoping to not only compete this gruelling challenge in less than 6 days, but to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK and for local not for profit organisation Guernsey Disability Alliance (GDA).
The cyclists are due to arrive in Guernsey on 26thApril and will complete 23km of their journey in the island before heading to England for the last leg from Portsmouth to Buckingham Palace.
The team welcome any other cyclists who’d like to join in. The ride will start from the White Rock Café at 1.30pm and finish at the yacht club. However, local cyclists are welcome to join from any part of the route.
The route, going anticlockwise around the North of Guernsey, can be seen here https://goo.gl/maps/2hj7W5E472z
Martin Connor (Surgeon), one of the team organising and taking part in the team was keen to include Guernsey in the route and to support the GDA. Mr Connor explained “I became aware of the work of the GDA through my connections with Guernsey. When I explained the GDA’s objectives to my team mates, they were keen to see if we could help. The team, comprised of doctors from the UK, care passionately about respecting the rights and dignity of persons affected by disability.”
